Hair loss in women is becoming increasingly more prevalent. Hair loss in women has recently been atributed to DHT, which previously was thought to only be the culprit which caused male hair loss. Hair loss in women can be treated and hair regrowth is a reality with many women regaining their hair and confidence.

Hair loss is traditionally male dominated, but an increasing amount of women are starting to suffer from female pattern baldness or adrogenetic alopecia.

Typical onslaught of hair loss in women

Recent research has shown that female pattern baldness is also largely attributed to DHT, which was previously known to be the main cause of hair loss in women. DHT is a biologically active metabolite of the male hormone testosterone. Previously this was not really linked to female hair loss as it was generally thought that in order for the male hormone testosterone to play a part in females, there would be an increase in the male hormone levels which would be accompanied by an increase in facial hair and a subsequent lowering of the voice.

The new research has proved that this is not necessary the case, as a temporary dip in the level of female hormones, which can be caused by a multitude of factors including menopause, is sufficient to give the male hormone a more powerful position, allowing the formation of DHT which in turn leads to female pattern hair loss or balding.

Hair loss in women is far more tragic than that in men. Many men are considered to be more sexy when they start to lose their hair or go completely bald. Now for women, unless you are Demi Moore, this is not the case. Most of a womens beauty and intitial attraction is through their hair and the hair style that she adopts. Your most groomed feature of your body is your hair. Many people recognise you from your hair style and the length and character of your hair. Your hair is your identity.

When you lose your hair you are losing your identity and this will cause a feeling of low self esteem and a great loss of confidence in yourself.

Hair loss in women can be stopped and it can be regrown if treated properly. Through the use of a good hair loss treatment, hair regrowth can be achieved and you will be able to regain your hair and your confidence again.

My preferred treatment for womens hair loss is a product called Sepherin. This product is totally natural and is achieving incredible results in combatting hair loss in women.

Provillus is also a great product, and only loses a mark or two, due to the inclusion of a little minoxidal in their formula, which prevents it from being a 100% natural product. Links to provillus can be found on the right side of this page.

Whatever you do, treat your hair loss now, before it affects your beauty and confidence levels.

Avoid hair products on your hair that are harsh and contain chemicals that will aggravate the scalp and can lead to broken or brittle hair resulting in hair loss.

Thinning of your hair is something that does not occur overnight, but usually takes place over a period of years. This is a general rule but is not always the case. Some people may lose their hair within a very short period, but this is mostly the exception and not the rule. See different types of alopecia.

The products that we use on our hair, can contribute to hair thinning, and so care should be taken over the choice of products and treatments that we use.

Treatments that we apply to our hair, should not contain any harsh chemicals. These harsh chemicals damage the hair strands and cause brittleness and breaking of the hair. Bleaches and many hair colourants will damage your hair and should be avoided.

Hair treatments that leave a oily residue on the scalp, often tend to block the pores of the hair follicles, which can also cause damage. When using any of these type of treatments, do not leave the treatment on your hair too long and make sure that you wash your hair and scalp thoroughly afterwards with a mild shampoo to remove all remaining residues.

Always use a mild shampoo and rinse your hair well with clean water after washing. Do not wash your hair too often, but rather rinse your hair with clean water on a regular basis, which will result in the need for you to wash your hair, less frequently.

When possible, soak a couple a sprigs of fresh rosemary in warm water. Use this rosemary water to rinse your hair. It will provide extra shine to your hair, whilst also increasing blood circulation to the scalp. Lack of sufficient blood circulation to the scalp results in decreased nutrition to the hair and subsequent hair thinning.
