Hair thinning is usually experienced as being the first part in a process that can lead to pattern baldness. When your hair begins to thin, it is a sign that there is decreased nutrition supply to the hair follicle resulting in a starvation process to the actual hair strands. The individual hair strands become thinner and weaker, eventually resulting in them falling out and you starting to experience hair loss.
The starvation or lack of supply of nutrition to the hair follicle, which results in hair thinning, can be directly attributed to a decrease in blood circulation to the hair follicle. Decreased blood circulation is mainly attributed to DHT which is a metabolised form of testosterone, the male hormone. Although DHT is regarded as being the main culprit in hair thinning, there are other causes as well. Some of these causes can be stress, poor diet, poor vitamin uptake, medications, and gastro problems.

Above you are able to view the typical process that occurs in hair thinning which leads to male pattern baldness.
Steps to aid in the prevention of Hair Thinning
As hair thinning is primarily caused by the lack of blood circulation, basically anything that promotes increased blood circulation in the scalp area without causing damage to the hair strands and hair follicles will aid in preventing hair from thinning.
Some methods that can be used are as follows :-
1) Gentle massage. Give your head a gentle daily massage using a slow but firm running of the fingers over your scalp in a single direction at a time. A circular rubbing motion can damage your hair starnds causing them to break.
2) Use gentle shampoos and avoid over washing your hair. Avoid all chemical treatments as these often damage the hair strands.
3) Use a brush instead of a comb and use the brush bristles to massage your scalp as you brush your hair. The slight tingling feeling that you experience when brushing your hair is as a result of the increased blood circulation.
4) Pat your hair dry with a towel and avoid using heat to dry your hair.
5) Add a couple of drops of rosemary essentail oil to your shampoo. Rosemary is a vascodilator which opens up the veins in the scalp area resulting in increased blood circulation.
6) If your parents have experienced hair thinning and pattern baldness, you are at an increased risk and it may be worth your while that the moment you do notice any form of abnormal hair loss, that you start a hair loss treatment immediately. In my opinion the best hair loss treatments are either Procerin or Provillus.
My hair is already Thinning – What do I do?
If you have already started to experience hair thinning and hair loss, the best thing that you can do is to fight against it. First you have to realise that contrary to many peoples thoughts and beliefs, hair thinning can be defeated and overcome. Please note that if you are losing hair due to Chemotherapy, do not try to stop that as it is a vital part of the treatment. Your hair will start to grow back after the Chemo.
Hair thinning is defeated through the treatment of the root cause of hair thinning and the eventual hair loss. As most hair thinning is as a direct result of the formation of DHT, the first step is to combat the formation of DHT. This is accomplished by using DHT blockers. The use of the all natural Saw Palmetto combined with other natural ingredients is very effective in blocking the formation of DHT.
Second in the treatment is the increasing of blood flow to the affected area. Most treatments use rosemary oil and a combination of other vascodilators to accomplish this.
Hair thinning is not something that occurs overnight and likewise is not something that is reversed overnight. Most treatments will require that you carry on treating your hair for up to six months in order to fully realise the benefits and results of the treatment.
I have developed a home recipe for the treatment of hair loss and this can be found here.
My recommended products for the treatment of thinning hair and hair loss are either Procerin or Provillus.
